Happy Mother’s Day - Prov. 31.30

… a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
— Proverbs 31.30b

I’d like to take just a moment to acknowledge all of the women, young and old, living and those who have passed, who have invested or will someday invest in not only giving their physical lives, energy and time for the sake of their children but who have been intentional in passing the fear of the Lord on to the the next generation. That’s an opportunity available to all women, not just biological mothers.

My faith and personal relationship with Jesus has been greatly influenced and marked by the women in my life. I was blessed to have grown up, like Timothy in the Bible, with a mother and grandmother who made a deep and lasting impression on my faith. The apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, recalling those early seeds of faith that had been planted in him. “I have  been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” 2 Timothy 1:5

The Bible has a lot to say about the value of having a right view and fear of the Lord. Earlier in Scripture, the Lord gives the command to His people, “These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe … so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live …” It goes on to instruct that we (fathers included) should constantly be impressing our the truth of God’s Word (the Bible) on our children, whether at the breakfast table, when we’re on walks, driving to school or tucking them into bed.

Happy Mother’s Day.
