Here's the Thing About Nasal Surgeries...

When I was little, after church we would usually go to Luby's for lunch. For those of you who aren't old, Luby's is a cafeteria. Or was... is Luby's even open any more? I'll have to google that. Anyway, I digress. At the cafeteria, you pick out what you want. Sometimes I'd get chicken, other times pork chops. Sometimes I'd choose mac and cheese, sometimes green beans. I'd usually want to get the jello, but Mom usually said "no." The point is, there were a lot of options available. So what does this have to do with nasal surgeries?

Well, when it comes to nasal and sinus surgery, it is A LOT like Luby's. There are several dozen surgeries that are available. Some are done in the office under local anesthesia and some are done in the OR under general. Some are super short with short recoveries, others a little longer. Some will help nasal airflow, while others are designed to treat sinus infections. Some even may help symptoms related to allergies, like nasal drainage.

When considering surgical options, it will be like you and me going to Luby's and discussing what you should eat. We will talk about what different surgeries do, how they will help, what your biggest issues are, and other factors like recovery and risks. We might talk about several different options and in the end you can then choose what you think is best. My advice: don't get the flounder. But in all seriousness, sometimes people get confused about all the options. I'll try to make it as straightforward as I can. In another post, I might try to categorize the different surgeries according to what they are designed to treat. For now, if you think you might need nasal surgery, make an appointment to see me by calling (817) 261-3000 and we can discuss what’s the right option for you.
