Downcast Souls - Lamentations 3:20b-26

 

I'll be honest. I had a different post scheduled for today, but somehow the timing of it just doesn't seem right. 

With all that is going on in our nation and around the world, it feels trivial to go about business as usual or even to joke or make light of insignificant parts of everyday life without taking the time to acknowledge the state of current events. 


I'm reminded of a passage in Scripture when God’s people were in deep anguish. 

“... my soul is downcast within me. 

Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, 

for His compassions never fail. 

They are new every morning; 

great is Your faithfulness.

I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; 

therefore I will wait for Him.

The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him,

to the one who seeks Him;

It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” 

Lamentations 3:20b-26

Waiting quietly doesn't mean we must remain silent when we see injustice in our fallen and very broken world.

HUMANS MATTER.

No one more passionately demonstrated their love for all mankind than when Jesus Christ offered up His very life that we may find true, lasting, eternal life in Him. 


I certainly don’t have the answers to the crises our nation faces today, but I know the One who does. Jesus Christ is our only hope. Let's keep our eyes fixed on Him.

"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross…" Hebrews 12.2a
